STUDIO IN THE WOODS 2019
Collaboration with the University of Liverpool
Every summer, Unit3 Design Studio collaborate with the University of Liverpool and take a cohort of 20 first-year architecture students to North Wales to build a 1:1 scale structure for real clients.
This year the students worked with the clients brief and held design workshops in the run up to the weekend with the clients at the University. The brief being to design a bridge that spanned over a river that ran through the clients garden and linked the house to an existing shelter. The students wanted to design a bridge that was aesthetically pleasing and had a dynamic flow and motion that reflected the movement of water, whilst providing a large platform for entertaining and relaxation.
The structure was designed over a period of 3 months, and then built in just 2 days (despite the torrential rain!).
The project was a huge success and the clients are delighted with the outcome.
