CONSERVATION AREA EXTENSION, LIVERPOOL
RIBA Stages 0-4
Unit3 have recently completed the design for a new two-storey extension onto a 19th Century villa located within the Grassendale Park and Cressington Park Conservation Area of Liverpool.
The building has been modified numerous times since first built, and the client has undergone an extensive refurbishment and repair programme recently to bring the property in line with current living and building standards to ensure the building’s longevity. Because of previous legacy adaptations made, the two rear apartments (ground and first floor) suffered from having a reduced footprint and an inefficient layout, with small room sizes and poor daylighting. The client asked Unit3 to introduce a new extension that compliments the existing building without overly detracting attention from it. Complimentary materials and colour tones are employed to harmonise the building, whilst still allowing occupants and visitors to distinguish between the old and the new. To further enhance the design, a new modern bay window and Juliet balcony on the first floor were introduced to allow occupants to appreciate the views out towards the River Mersey and surrounding area.
