Buckley Clay Quarry

BUCKLEY CLAY QUARRY

RIBA Stages 0-7

This project involved the remodelling of an existing detatched house built circa 1990 to provide an enlarged kitchen / dining room and snug family area.

Built on the site of old clay pits (which were quarried to make the famous Buckley bricks), the design is centralised around a feature brick wall that intersects the space, defines the internal functions and visually links the route through the house from front to back.

The clients were keen to adopt a new and striking contemporary addition that contrast to the old style of building. Unit3 therefore designed an extension that maximised light into the rooms and incorporated white render, staffordshire blue feature bricks and new aluminium bi-fold doors and skylights.
