career accelerator programme
Throughout 2017, unit3 design studio will be hosting a series of two-hour long sessions aimed to giving students from across the North West a head-start in their careers.
Each session is held at our home in the Baltic Creative in a relaxed and informal environment where a specific career related topic will be discussed – such as working in practice, finding employment and developing a portfolio / CV skills.
Hosted by unit3’s directors and architects Martin Shutt and Anthony Fogg, this is a unique opportunity for students to come into a creative workplace and gain valuable key knowledge, lessons learnt and advice from those that have already been through the process!
Sessions are not formal lectures or workshops instead we provide short and informative presentations, insider knowledge, open group discussions and the opportunity for plenty of your Q&A’s.
Sessions are aimed at both existing students of architecture as well as those thinking of careers in architecture, although everyone with an interest is welcome to come along and join us. Sessions conclude at 7pm and drinks refreshments are provided.
A copy of the sessions presentations, e-books and other useful resources mentioned throughout the session will also be provided to all attendees after each event.Details of our next session will be shown below (Eventbrite booking form) when available.
coming up in 2017 …
Lessons We Learnt (when starting our own practice)
Having made the transition from students to employees to directors, we can share with you the experiences and lessons we have learnt along the way – including the highs, lows and pitfalls to avoid when starting your own practice.
The RIBA Part 3 Exam
Our director Martin Shutt is an RIBA Part 3 examiner and so will give attendees the full lowdown on what the course involves, how to prepare yourself and what the 3-day exam and interview are like.
BIM Basics (for small practices)
A workshop hosted by a number of architects from practices across Liverpool will come together and explain exactly what BIM is, how it is applied in their practices and what it means for the profession moving forwards. Subsequent sessions to be arranged that will explore practical BIM applications for small practices.
At unit3 we have been testing and using various different virtual reality (VR) technologies to help explain architectural designs to clients since the start of 2016. This session will illustrate what we have learnt works best for architectural applications and look at the wide range of technologies available on the market.
